Millwrights Local 1102 and the Millwrights Institute of Technology are part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. The Apprenticeship meets the standards of the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship, and the Michigan Department of Education.

An integral part of the heritage of Millwrights Local 1102 is recognizing the contributions of its members. Millwrights 1102 Apprenticeship and Training was founded as an independent training center in 1968. It moved to its present location on Mound Road as the Millwright Institute of Technology in 1980 and expanded the facility in 1986. The program's success has been the result of the efforts of all of those who dedicated countless hours to promote the education of apprentices.

Our mission is to provide a safe learning environment where our members will have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a productive part of our workforce today and to continually enhance those skills for the future.
